A temporary restricted area will be imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) over some parts of Singapore during this year’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

The temporary restricted area will extend from ground level to 4,000 feet above mean sea level, said CAAS in a release on 8 September.

Aerial activities such as flying unmanned aircraft, kite-flying, releasing flight lanterns and hoisting captive balloons within and into the temporary restricted area are prohibited during these dates and times:

  • 14 September 2017, 2:30pm to 11:15pm

  • 15 September 2017, 3:00pm to 11:45pm

  • 16 September 2017, 3:00pm to 17 September 2017, 1:00am and

  • 17 September 2017, 3:00pm to 18 September 2017, 1:00am

The restrictions are to facilitate low-level helicopter flights doing aerial filming during the night race, said CAAS.

Unauthorised conduct of aerial activities within a temporary restricted area is regarded as an offence under the Air Navigation Order.

If convicted, offenders can be fined up to $20,000 for the first offence, while re-offenders can be fined up to $40,000 and jailed up to 15 months.
