SINGAPORE — Several facilities at the Singapore Sports Hub – the OCBC Aquatic Centre, the Water Sports Centre and Kallang Wave Mall – have been opened since Phase 2 of reopening after the COVID-19 circuit breaker period.
Here are some activities which the Sports Hub is recommending to get Singapore residents to return to the active outdoors, with safe-distancing measures in place.
Kayaking and canoeing
Rent a kayak or canoe from the Water Sports Centre, and enjoy a few hours paddling in the Kallang Basin. With all water sports courses and dragonboat training having been suspended, canoeists will be able to enjoy the peaceful expanse, while at the same time get a good workout and tan.
More information and rental rates can be found here.
Indoor rock climbing
Go rock climbing in air-conditioned comfort at Kallang Wave Mall’s Climb Central, which features the tallest indoor rock face in Singapore at 16 metres high.
Only a maximum of 48 people are allowed into the facility at any one time and climbers will be restricted to alternate lanes, so as to maintain safe distancing.
Have fun figuring out the best way to place your hands and feet, stretch those arm and leg muscles, and push yourself to scale new heights.
At this sprawling 34m-by-18m green space on the roof of the Singapore Sports Museum, both the young and old can work up a light sweat in the age-old game of lawn bowling, which involves strategy, skill and social interaction.
Players throw a large ball as close as possible to a smaller white ball, known as a jack, without hitting it. The tricky part is getting the ball to go where you want, as it is made to travel in a curve.
The space is free for public use. Patrons can borrow equipment from the Sports Hub Visitors Centre.
Community fitness programmes at the Sports Hub have returned with new offerings. From Cardio Dance to SuperFit Power Intense and Cardio Blast, get your heart pumping with Garmin’s exhilarating dance and high-intensity training sports sessions.
Alternatively, wind down after a long day of work-from-home and get in touch with your inner self with SuperFit Power Yoga and Keep Fit Taiji Wellness.
Programme registration is compulsory, can be done through the ELXR App available at the App Store or Google Play. More information can be found on the Experience Sports page, with the temporary changes reflected here.
With just two people on each team, beach volleyball an ideal sport to do with all the safe distancing measures in place. The beach volleyball courts at Singapore Sports Hub are free to the public to book.
