The revolutionary Los Angeles classic car club you need to join

There’s a new unique concept on the Los Angeles classic car scene. The world’s first ‘social classic car garage’ is now open in Redondo beach, 35 kilometres (22 miles) south of L.A.'s city center. Offering club members flexible, on-demand use of a classic car fleet and access to a vintage shared recreational space, Garage 77 is set to change the face of car rental as we know it.

The startup firm offers all the perks of owning a rotating fleet of rare and desirable heritage vehicles but without the upkeep and outright financial costs. Garage 77 claims that you won’t need strict mechanical know-how to enjoy driving iconic vehicles – including retro Chevrolets](https://www.autoclassics.com/posts?make=chevrolet) and [Porsches – rather, each trip will be devoid of hassle ‘at a fraction of the cost of traditional ownership’.

'We wanted to create a space where our members can experience the exhilaration and nostalgia of driving the most popular vehicles of decades past as if it were their own garage, without the huge cost of ownership or mechanical know-how,' said Garage 77 co-founder Brian Waldman.



'We’re not your typical "car guys" or gearheads that have the time or knowledge to work on these classic cars, but for a date night, important business meeting, picking your kids up from school or a weekend road trip, we realized our unique shared model made the most sense for others with similarly busy and exciting lifestyles.'

The Garage 77 fleet currently consists of a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette C1, 1975 Ford Bronco, 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS, 1956 Porsche 356 Speedster Tribute, 1981 DMC DeLorean, 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, 1961 Lincoln Continental and a 1977 Jeep CJ-5.

Don’t think that’s your lot, however. The garage is continuously expanding in a search for the most electrifying and sensational vehicles out there. The line-up is set to change on a regular basis, with potential for the British Jaguar E-type or Range Rover to make an appearance.

That laid back approach to membership doesn't mean the cars will suffer, either. Garage 77 employs several expert mechanics who maintain the fleet with individual care on each vehicle.



'Beyond the thrill of the cars themselves we realized there were many others like us who wanted a fun, comfortable place to get away, hang out with friends and develop a larger network whether for fun or business throughout Los Angeles,' said Garage 77 co-founder Stephanie Murg.

'We set out to build a space worthy of housing these pieces of automotive history and The Garage is a distinctly casual atmosphere that will transport you back several decades with pinball machines, a guitar parlour, televisions, music and great times.'

Garage 77 is set to host regular meetups, mechanic demonstrations and social events as networking opportunities for members. Who knows, you may even find love – by which we mean with something exotic with a tight chassis that you won’t fail to turn on, like a Ferrari 308.



Members pay monthly fees equal to the cost of taking an average classic car out for a single day. Interested? You’ll want to apply for membership quickly as there’s a cap to ensure a high car-to-member ratio and a strong community.

Where did the idea come from?



Founders Brian and Cameron had a close bond as South Bay neighbours who shared an interest in Classic Cars. Neither had ever been to a car show, or knew much about auto maintenance. Yet, that was all set to change…

One weekend they borrowed a friend’s 1971 Dodge Charger, which they kept in a shared spot and over beers in their driveway they discussed their dream of a larger shared garage, ideal for hanging out, with a fleet of cars to choose from and mechanic experts to handle the upkeep. Garage 77 was born from this fateful discussion.



There are plans in the coming year for Garage 77 to expand into the Santa Monica/Venice market, with inklings to also give San Diego a try. Keep your eyes peeled for an influx in classic cars hitting the road near you, as a new generation of enthusiasts are soon to be born out of Brian and Cameron’s efforts in connecting major Southern California metro regions.
