'Riddick' rises to the top of the global box office

Vin Diesel has taken One Direction's place on the victory podium. The third film from the "Chronicles of Riddick" series emerged as the top earner at the box office this week, while the boy band documentary slipped from first place into fifth.

Headlined by Vin Diesel, "Riddick" brought in $26 million during its first week in cinemas. Currently shown in 32 territories, the film was particularly popular in the US, where it rose to first place in the domestic box office with $18.7 million in revenues.

"Elysium" remains in second place this week. The science fiction film starring Matt Damon brought in $24.3 million worldwide. In third place, the comedy "We're The Millers," with Jennifer Aniston, took in global revenues of $17.8 million this week.
