Riot confirms plans to add role selection to Wild Rift ranked games

League of Legends: Wild Rift entered the open beta phase on 27 October. Since then, players were curious if League of Legends’ role selection on PC will be ported over to its mobile version.

In League of Legends, you can queue up for ranked games by selecting two roles that you would like to play — your primary and secondary role. For example, if a player wants to play as an AD carry, he or she will select “bot” followed by a less preferred role. The system will then matchmake this player with other players who selected other roles in the same ELO to form a team.

Because Wild Rift currently does not have this feature, players have experienced fighting over the same roles when they enter a ranked game.  This prompted a player, NineTails, to ask Riot Games’ international producer Hideo Hikida about this feature.

Wild Rift product leader, Kristoffer Touborg, added that the team will reveal the “specific design” of the role selection feature in the future. Even though it might be different from PC, she reiterated that the goal remains the same — to make sure every player can play the role they desire.

The League of Legends: Wild Rift open beta is currently only available in Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia. The game will be released in Europe and more regions in Asia in early December. For North America, South America and India, Riot is planning on a Spring 2021 date.
