Riot Games announced on Friday (19 February) that they will be donating US$10,000 to UNICEF Philippines for those that have been affected by Typhoon Odette in 2021.

The announcement was made on the Facebook pages of VALORANT Philippines and League of Legends: Wild Rift Philippines on Friday with the tagline "Kasama Namin Kayo," which translates to "We are with you" in Filipino.

Typhoon Odette (International name: Rai) struck the Philippines on 16 December 2021 and quickly became one of the strongest typhoons to have hit the country in the year year.

Odette displaced more than 300,000 people as it passed through Bohol, the western portion of Visayas, and mainland Palawan, with Siargao being the most hard-hit.

"We are eager to support the community's efforts to get back on their feet, and have made a donation of USD10,000 to UNICEF Philippines. It is our hope to help the communities in Visayas and Mindanao rebuild, and aid those who have been affected," Riot's announcement read.

The announcement also encouraged others to donate to UNICEF Philippines.

In 2020, Riot Games also donated US $5,000 to the said organization for recovery efforts after a series of typhoons hit different parts of the country.

First-person shooter game VALORANT and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) League of Legends: Wild Rift are both popular games in the Philippines.

The Philippines is also home to the Philippines Pro-Gaming League (PPGL), which holds Riot's Esports tournaments for both games.

The local gaming and esports community in the Philippines have also done their part to help the victims of Typhoon Odette.

Filipino MLBB powerhouse team Blacklist International notably donated a portion of their winnings from the M3 World Championship last December to victims of the typhoon.
