When it comes to red carpet looks, Rita Ora never fails to disappoint. Whether she's repping naked dressing in a see-through gown or sporting an equally daring design that's more cut-outs than fabric, the artist and wife of Taika Waititi has become known for her stand-out style.
And last night in London at The Fashion Awards was no exception. Sure, at first glance, we might have been a tad underwhelmed by the simple black dress Rita arrived in. Its high neck, floor-sweeping hem and sleeveless, figure-hugging silhouette is a classically elegant style we're longing to recreate. But it's not Rita's usual style, especially for an event that literally has the word 'fashion' in its title.
Luckily, she quickly quelled any concerns we had when she turned around, revealing a collection of chrome spikes protruding realistically out of her flesh all down the centre of her back.
The spikes – highlighted by the fact her black dress was completely backless, plunging all the way to her bum – were of course a prosthetic. Taking to Instagram to talk through her look in more detail, Rita revealed her silver chrome spine took between two to three hours to attach and was an upgrade to her look the previous year that featured a facial prosthetic.
But back to that dress. We said we were longing to recreate Rita's style (Christmas party dress, anyone?) and it turns out it'll be a lot easier than we thought. Rather than opting for a designer frock, Rita turned to the high street. More specifically, her recent collaboration collection with Primark.
Making history by wearing the first ever Primark dress to The Fashion Awards, 500 replicas of Rita's dress will be sold and all proceeds from sales of the dress will be donated to Breast Cancer Now.
Race ya to the checkout – spiky spine optional.
