Robber impersonating as policeman nabbed


JOHOR BARU: Police detained a suspect believed to have been involved in a spate of robberies in Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and Larkin here by impersonating as a policeman.

Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said the suspect, aged 32, was picked up in a raid at the Larkin Idaman Flats near here early today.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect had admitted to committing over 20 robberies and snatch theft cases, and had been active over the past two years using the same modus operandi,” he said here today.

Sulaiman said the suspect did not possess any authorisation card and instead showed a police logo stitched onto a T-shirt which was never issued by the force.

The suspect has seven criminal records, namely six robbery cases and one for murder and is also high on the police wanted list for three robbery cases, he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 and 170 of the Penal Code. --Bernama
