BERA: Five robbers made off with jewelleries and cash amounting to RM700,000 from a pawn shop at Jalan Besar in Triang near here on Tuesday morning.

Police said the men were hiding on the first floor of the shophouse, waiting for the shopowner to come in before pouncing on him in the 9am incident.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mansor Samsudin said the shop owner, in his 50s, did not noticed that the robbers had already entered his shop and were waiting upstairs.

It was when he went upstairs to use the toilet that the robbers jumped on him and tied him up.

"The robbers then brought the victim downstairs and held him in the kitchen. They told him to call his wife. Both of them later ended up being tied up and had their mouths gagged.

"After that, they ransacked the shop and escaped with some cash and six boxes of jewelleries.

"The victims, after the robbers had left, managed to untie themselves and alerted the police," he said.

Mansor said police were still tracking down the robbers based on the descriptions provided by the couple.

It was learnt that the robbers had entered the premises through the roof between midnight and early Tuesday morning before waiting for the owner to turn up.
