Robinsons Retail invests in Philippines e-commerce startup BeautyMNL

With this investment, Robinsons Retail aims to further expand and strengthen its presence in the beauty format and online retain space

Philippines’s leading multi-format retailer Robinsons Retail Holdings has acquired 20 per cent stake in Taste Central Curators, which owns and operates e-commerce platform BeautyMNL, for an undisclosed amount.

With this, Robinsons Retail aims to further expand and strengthen its presence in the beauty format and online retain space, as per a disclosure by the company.

BeautyMNL sells a wide variety of products ranging from makeup and skincare to haircare. With the help of its celebrity gurus, it brings tips and beauty trends, and its magazine provides articles tailor-fit to the Filipina’s lifestyle.

The company has partnered with makeup mavens, skincare savants, hair authorities and other beauty magicians.

Robinsons Retail is the second-largest multi-format retailer in the Philippines. It started out in the retail business in 1980 when it opened its first department store in Metro Manila.

The firm operates in six business segments: supermarkets (Robinsons Supermarket and its two subformats: Robinsons Easymart and Robinsons Selections), department stores (Robinsons Department Store), DIY stores (Handyman Do it Best, True Value, True Home by True Value and the big box hardware subformat Robinsons Builders), convenience stores (Ministop), drugstores (South Star Drug and The Generics Pharmacy) and specialty stores (from consumer electronics and appliances retailers Robinsons Appliances and Savers Appliances to toys retailer Toys “R” Us, one price point retailer Daiso Japan, coffee chain Costa Coffee and international fashion brands such as Topshop, Topman and Dorothy Perkins and international cosmetics brands such as Shiseido and Benefit).
