Sylvester Stallone is set to narrate a new documentary about the making of the Rocky films.

40 Years of Rocky: The Birth of a Classic delves into the creation of the boxing drama, with Stallone giving fans an “emotional” and “intimate” look at the role that made him a star back in 1976.

“You’re a very lucky person when you can find out that the best friend you ever had is some character that just popped out of your mind, someone who was always there when things got rough and never quit on me,” the 73-year-old actor explains of the role in the trailer.

Featuring previously unseen footage, the documentary tells the story of how Stallone went from a relatively unknown actor to landing the lead role in what would go on to become one of the biggest franchises of all time.

Speaking about the documentary, director Derek Wayne Johnson said: “The documentary is a golden nugget for Rocky fans and casual audiences alike.

“It’s a charming piece of film history narrated by Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, and will give audiences an intimate, and at times, emotional experience.”

40 Years of Rocky: The Birth of a Classic will be available to purchase on demand from 8 June.
