“When I was a teenager, I was in and out of jail,” said President Duterte.

“One fight there, one fight here, and at the age of 16, I killed someone.

“A real person. During a rumble. A stabbing.

“I was just 16 years old. It was just because we looked at each other.

“How much more now that I am President?” he concluded, to laughter from the audience.

President Duterte has previously admitted to throwing a man out of a helicopter, and shooting people while mayor of Davao.

In September, he threatened that he would kill his own son if the latter was involved with drugs.

Upon winning election last year, he implemented a drug war that has seen thousands of people killed, including children.

However, despite the killings he remains popular in the Philippines, who see him as making the country a safer place.
