Rosamund Pike approached to lead 'Guernsey'

The Oscar-nominated "Gone Girl" actress is being linked with a Mike Newell adaptation of hit historical novel "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society."

Dealing with the 20th century period in which Guernsey, a remote island located in the channel between England and France, was under German occupation, Mary Shaffer and Anne Burrows' 2008 novel was an immediate success with critics and readers.

Film rights were optioned just as the book was entering stores, with Mike Newell of "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Mona Lisa Smile" and the fourth "Harry Potter" film now thought to be in the director's chair, as Deadline suggests.

Pike is not the first leading lady to be associated with the role, with Kate Winslet, Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway among the other British names previously linked with "Guernsey."
