RugbyU: Argentina cancel Sevens World Series leg

Argentina has postponed hosting its round of the 2012/13 Sevens World Series because of logistical problems in a year when the senior team debuts in the Rugby Championship.

"This has been a difficult decision to take as we are excited about our HSBC Sevens World Series hosting opportunity," said Luis Castillo, president of the Argentinian rugby union (UAR).

"However, the logistical challenges are too significant to successfully deliver an event this year that is beneficial for all stakeholders and we would like to thank the IRB for their support and understanding in this matter.

"We are now all focused on ensuring that all the processes are in place to ensure that our debut in 2013/14 is a successful one."

Bernard Lapasset, chairman of rugby's world governing body the IRB, supported the decision, saying: "The IRB understands and fully supports what was a very difficult decision for the UAR.

"They have kept us fully informed throughout the review process and we believe that the decision they have taken is in the best interests of the Union, Argentinean Rugby and the HSBC Sevens World Series."
