Run, jump, make noise for Don Bosco!

8 February 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Don Bosco alumni and kindred spirits are asked to rally behind their alma mater as it commemorates its 60th year in the Philippines through a simultaneous fun run in six key venues.

Dubbed "Run, Jump, Make Noise: Celebrating 60 Years of Don Bosco's Presence in the Philippines", the fun run is set on Feb. 26, 6 a.m., at all Don Bosco Fun Run key locations such as Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Nuvali in Laguna, Clark in Pampanga, San Jose in Nueva Ecija, Naga City and Legazpi City in Bicol. Runners can participate in the 3K, 5K, or 10K challenge.

The anniversary activity aims to create a trust fund for the eight Don Bosco Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers, helping more marginalized youths realize their dreams of a brighter future.

The Don Bosco network of schools by the Salesian order has been part of the landscape of Philippine education since the 1950s. Their passionate advocacy for the youth, regardless of economic standing, has enabled them to create a strong educational foundation that has been admired for many decades.

The TVET centers trains and forms marginalized youth into becoming able and productive citizens and allows them to be in the workforce of the technically-skilled. Graduates have a 90 percent employability rate with car manufacturers, technical offices, and many other industries. On top of free education for these out-of-school youths, Don Bosco also provides for their basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, as well as hospital care when necessary.

Registration is ongoing until Feb. 24 at any of the Don Bosco campuses in Mandaluyong, Makati, Tondo, Naga, Legazpi, Clark (Pampanga), Canlubang (Laguna) and San Jose (Nueva Ecija); in Chris Sports outlets in SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, Glorietta, and Festival Mall; and ROX in Bonifacio High Street. Registration fee of P350 goes to the trust fund. For more details, visit: www.odea.sdb.ph; or call 534-5922 or 0916-6113970.
