Rutgers game vs. Temple moved from Thursday to Saturday after Tropical Storm Ida flooding

Rutgers' Week 1 game vs. Temple has been moved to Saturday because of the catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Ida on Wednesday night in the New Jersey area.

The game between the two teams was set to kick off Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET. It will now kick off at noon ET on Saturday.

"I said all summer that we went through a lot last year and that has prepared us for anything," Temple coach Rod Carey said in a statement. "My thoughts are with those families who have lost their homes due to this storm. Delaying our football game for 48 hours is not as devastating as their situations."

At least 14 people were killed in the Northeast after a deluge of rain in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Central Park recorded the most rain ever in an hour on Wednesday night as over 3 inches fell between 8:50 and 9:50 p.m.

Streets and sidewalks all over the corridor between Philadelphia and New York City turned into ponds and rivers because of the heavy rains. New Jersey's Newark Airport even flooded. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for all the counties in the state.

Tropical Storm Ida hit the area after first making landfall as a deadly hurricane in Louisiana on Sunday. The storm traveled north through Louisiana before traveling northeast through Tennessee.
