Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively regret their plantation wedding
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have addressed the public criticism of their Southern plantation 2012 wedding venue for the first time.
Reynolds said that they will always feel immense regret over getting married at Boone Hall in South Carolina, calling it "a giant fucking mistake".
Last year, Pinterest banned all wedding images on former plantations, including Reynolds and Lively’s ceremony.
In a new interview, Reynolds expressed to Fast Company how the couple, at the time, thought of it as just a wedding venue.
“[The wedding location is] something we’ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for. It’s impossible to reconcile,” he said.
“What we saw at the time was a wedding venue on Pinterest. What we saw after was a place built upon devastating tragedy. Years ago we got married again at home - but shame works in weird ways.
“A giant fucking mistake like that can either cause you to shut down or it can reframe things and move you into action.
“It doesn’t mean you won’t fuck up again. But repatterining and challenging lifelong social conditioning is a job that doesn’t end.”
Both Reynolds and Lively voiced their support for the Black community amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement - pledging to raise their children as inherently anti-racist and donating to the NAACP Legal Defence Fund.

"We're ashamed that in the past we've allowed ourselves to be uninformed about how deeply rooted systemic racism is. We've been teaching our children differently than the way our parents taught us. We want to educate ourselves about other people's experiences and talk to our kids about everything, all of it… especially our own complicity," said Reynolds and Lively in a joint late-May statement. "We want to use our privilege and platform to be an ally. And to play a part in easing pain for so many who feel as though this grand experiment is failing them."
