Ryan Reynolds Recalls The Moment His Daughters Realised Their 'Aunt' Taylor Swift Was A Famous Singer
Article updated on 09/11/22: Ryan Reynolds revealed a sweet detail about Taylor Swift and his three daughters - James, seven, Inez, six, and Betty, three - during a recent appearance on Sirius XM's The Jess Cagle Show.
The father-of-three, who is expecting his fourth child with his wife Blake Lively, said that at one point his children didn't know the couple's close friend Swift was famous.
The 46-year-old actor shared that his children thought the multi-Grammy winner sang for a 'hobby' and only realised she was a famous singer after seeing her perform in concert.
'I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of mummy and daddy that's very, very close, almost family,' Reynolds shared.
'And then they went to a concert one day and were like, "Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby."'
Reynolds told host Jess Cagle that his daughters are huge fans of the recording artist, and were excited for the release of her latest album Midnights, which she dropped on Friday, October 21.
The doting father said he planned a 'Midnights dance party' in the soon-to-be family-of-six's New York home. 'We're headed straight to the porch where we're doing a full dance number set to Midnights, swear words included,' he recalled of the moment. 'My favourite thing is when a three-year-old is just throwing down the F-bomb in a song and has no idea.'
Reynolds also recently told Today he hopes his and Lively's fourth child is a girl. 'I know girls,' he said. 'So I'm kind of hoping for that.'
When recently asked by E! News whether he thinks being a father a fourth time round will be 'easier' due to his parenting experience so far, the actor admitted: 'Yes and no. I mean, the things we know are going to help us get through things a little bit quicker. But I don't know. Anything can happen.'
Reynolds and Lively previous said that they adhere to tradition by keeping the sex of their children a surprise until their birth. 'I don't even know if it's a boy or a girl yet. So, we'll see,' he recently said of his unborn child.

Ryan Reynolds didn't shy away from admitting to his 'brutal' mistakes, particularly when it comes to parenting his three daughters, who he shares with his wife Blake Lively.
Sitting down for a discussion called 'Creativity at the Pace of Culture' at Cannes, he joked about having three 'wild' daughters - Betty, two, Ines, five, and James, seven.
'I'm a parent of three girls. They're wild. I think they have rabies sometimes,' he joked.
The 45-year-old then delved into his behaviour as a parent, admitting: 'I'm like any parent — I'll have a moment where I'll just snap.'
Reynolds added: 'It's not so much what you do in the moment that's interesting, it's what you do afterwards.'
The actor-turned-entrepreneur said that his 'brutal mistakes' have heightened his awareness and inspired him more than his career successes.
'I used to tell my kids, 'Don't waste your mistakes,' he recalled.
'When you're making mistakes it's easy to be absorbed by shame and this idea that you've done something wrong, but you also have to look at it critically and use it as a stepping stone to learning something profound.'
Reynolds has previously spoken about admiration he has for Lively as a mother.
Explaining that he wouldn't be the father he is today if it wasn't for her, he said on a newly released fourth season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman: 'Blake, full disclosure, really showed me how to do all this.'
Asked if we would feel anxious if Lively wasn't around due to visiting family out of town, Reynolds quipped: 'I would, first off, never let her go visit her family. No, yeah, that is illegal. That's kidnapping.'
As much as he would find being alone with his kids for a few days 'pretty exciting at first', he noted that the 'division of labour is very important' when raising three children.
When previously speaking to career platform LinkedIn last December, Reynolds was the doting dad when saying: 'I really enjoy being a present dad. I love taking them to school in the morning. I love picking them up.'
Discussing home schooling during the pandemic, he said: 'I certainly don’t miss Zoom school but, you know, it was really lovely to have that insight and visibility into my kids’ real daily lives. And for my wife as well.'
A Simple Favour star Lively, 34, who previously told E! News that she's 'obsessed' with her kids and later told Allure: 'I’ve always wanted a big family. Oh, I’d love 30 [children] if I could,' previously joked about wanting 'a whole alternative life'.
Admitting to E! News earlier this year that she snuck out of the house to attend New York Fashion Week, she said: 'I could put my kids to bed and then secretly sneak out and go have a whole alternative life'.
