Former Big Brother's Bit on the Side host Rylan Clark-Neal has opened up about how he found out the reality series was coming to an end.

Channel 5 confirmed that it would be axing both Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother in 2018, and while speaking at Samsung KX's 'Thread Talks' event last night (January 22), Rylan admitted that he and the rest of the team had no idea the news was coming.

"We never knew, genuinely, I'll be completely honest, we never knew it was going," he explained.

"We've heard rumours that they were thinking about it, but we thought Celeb would stay. There's no way that Celeb can go."

Of course, Celebrity Big Brother was cancelled too, and the presenter continued to explain that he only found out about the news the night before it was made public – but reiterated that he believes it will definitely come back again at some point.

"It was a phone call, I got a phone call the night before it was announced to say it's going and I had no... I genuinely had no words," Rylan added.

"In my house I had a diary room, this is how dedicated I am to this show. This is the truth; I have a diary room in my house and two diary room chairs I chored. But I do have to say something, I know it will come back.

"When and how, I don't know. But I know it will come back."

It's not the first time Rylan has teased a return for the reality show, as he previously marked the anniversary of the show's final episode by teasing "I know you will be back" while in August last year he suggested that Netflix could be the perfect platform for Big Brother too.

While Rylan (and the rest of us) wait for the news confirming a Big Brother comeback, the presenter has been keeping busy with a whole host of jobs.

Last year, Rylan fronted the rebooted Supermarket Sweep and co-hosted Strictly: It Takes Two with Zoe Ball, while this year he's set to return to screens as the new host of Ready Steady Cook too.

Rylan Clark-Neal was speaking at his Thread Talks performance at Samsung KX, the technology firm’s new “experience space” in King’s Cross, London, which hosts tech tutorials, health and wellbeing sessions and other classes.
