Sabah cops taser man attempting to slay wife, infant daughter

TUARAN: Police shot an estranged husband with a taser gun when he attempted to harm his wife and infant with a knife at Kampung Bakut here this morning.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said police tasered the 33-year-old man when he turned aggressive and attempted to slit his wife's throat.

Earlier during the incident, at about 10am, the man, who had locked himself in a room with his 8-month-old daughter, had threatened to kill the child.

"Police took about an hour to persuade the man to come out of the room.

"As he opened the door, he immediately grabbed the wife and we had no choice but to use a taser gun on him,” Fuad said, adding that the duo escaped unhurt.

He said the man was arrested and the case will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

Initial investigation shows that the man has no criminal record and does not suffer from mental illness.
