ONE: FULL BLAST might’ve been a quick replacement for ONE: EMPOWER, but the martial arts spectacle delivered plenty of exciting action.
The show, which aired on Friday, 28 May, featured a ONE Super Series Muay Thai main event between a pair of top contenders and a flyweight co-main event between rising stars.
In the evening’s final bout, #1-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender Saemapetch Fairtex took on #3-ranked “Left Meteorite” Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai in a long-awaited showdown.
Both men opened the contest looking dangerously sharp and poised, as Kulabdam connected with low kicks and right hooks while Saemapetch fired off jabs and body combinations.
Late in the first round, one of those body combos sent Kulabdam down and unable to beat the count, cementing Saemapetch as the division’s undisputed #1 contender. In the process, he may have earned a second shot at reigning ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao.
In the lead-up to the main event, “The Hunter” Xie Wei took on organizational newcomer Kantharaj Agasa “Kannadiga” in a flyweight mixed martial arts fight.
Agasa, a grappling wizard, shot for early takedowns but was often met by the brick wall-like defense of Xie, who kept stuffing the Indian’s head on those attempts.
By the end of the second round, “The Hunter” had racked up damage with strikes, and Agasa was looking tired – so tired, in fact, that he couldn’t come out for the third, giving Xie the TKO win.
