A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) C-130 transport aircraft airlifted humanitarian aid worth $100,000 to the Philippines on Monday afternoon (7 August) to provide relief to displaced civilians affected by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City, in southern Philippines.

The aircraft took off from Paya Lebar airport at 0600 hours and landed at Laguindingan International Airport, Philippines.

The relief package comprises tents, blankets, medical supplies, food items and water filtration devices, Singapore’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement. The items, which were donated by the Singapore Armed Forces and the Singapore Red Cross, will be sent to evacuees housed in temporary shelters around Marawi.

The airlift follows Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s acceptance of the SAF’s offer of help to the Philippines during Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen’s visit to the Philippines last month.

Ng also offered the use of the SAF’s urban training villages for troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and a detachment of unmanned aerial vehicles to boost the AFP’s intelligence and surveillance capabilities.
