Ukraine’s SBU security service has uncovered a criminal organization in Kyiv that spread pro-Kremlin narratives and incited religious hatred on the orders from Russia’s FSB, SBU’s press service reported via Telegram on March 12.

The criminal group had over 15 members, with four already detained, including the head of a Kyiv Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) parish, who authorities say was a member of the Russian intelligence apparatus.

This is one of the largest FSB networks that has operated in Ukraine since the beginning of the war. It had a clear hierarchy and maintained constant communication with major Russian propaganda outlets, the SBU said.

The report notes that the network's coordinator in Ukraine was a priest. He was responsible for disseminating materials that justified Russia's war against Ukraine and incited sectarian strife.

The cleric also coordinated other members of the group, who posed as "political experts" and produced provocative posts and videos for distribution through social media.

These messages were immediately picked up by Russian media to spread fakes narratives about Ukraine.

According to the SBU, the main goal of the operations was to undermine the political situation in Ukraine and discredit Kyiv in the eyes of its Western partners.

So far, 14 members of the criminal group have been charged with treason, collaborating with the enemy, incitement to religious hatred, and justification of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The accused face life imprisonment if convicted on all counts.
