The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has formed an advisory panel to review fire safety regulations and certification processes relating to the cladding of buildings.

The 13-member panel will provide industry feedback to SCDF’s recommendations and assist in the implementation of recommendations arising from the review.

It will comprise key representatives from government agencies, certification bodies, the building industry and academia.

Results of the review will be announced by the end of 2018.

In May 2017, a fire broke out at 30 Toh Guan Road, killing one woman. SCDF investigations found that the composite cladding panels on the building’s façade were not of the standard required under the Fire Code.

In August 2017, SCDF identified 34 other buildings that were using non-compliant cladding.

Since then, SCDF said in December 2017, half of these building have removed such cladding while the remaining half were in the midst of removing them.
