SCDF responds to 'rescue incident' involving man on ledge at Tanjong Pagar condo
SINGAPORE — Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers responded to an incident involving a man on a seventh-floor ledge at a condominium in Tanjong Pagar on Wednesday (7 August) afternoon.
An SCDF spokesperson said its officers responded to a “rescue incident” at 10 Gopeng Street – the address of the Icon condominium – around 2.50pm.
“A safety life air pack was set up as a precautionary measure. The man was subsequently apprehended by the (Singapore Police Force),” the spokesperson added. Yahoo News Singapore understands that the man is in his 30s.
At the scene, two SCDF Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart) officers were spotted preparing to rappel to the unit from two floors above. Other officers also prepared to deploy a rescue net in an attempt to rescue the man.
Dressed in a white tank top, a black cap and sunglasses, the man sat on the air-conditioning ledge of the unit. At least one SCDF officer and several others were seen speaking to the man through the window of an adjacent unit.
At around 5.20pm, the SCDF officers went into action and deployed their rescue net over the ledge. From inside the unit, a window was then opened and the man appeared to voluntarily re-enter the apartment.
Yahoo News Singapore has reached out to the police over the incident.
