Schitt's Creek spoilers follow for the series finale, 'Happy Ending'.

Schitt's Creek has wrapped up its series with a romantic wedding for popular couple David Rose and Patrick Brewer – but of course, this being Schitt's Creek, there had to be a good dose of chaos thrown into the finale too.

Not only did David (Dan Levy) and Patrick (Noah Reid) have to rush to find a new location for their nuptials due to a rain downpour, but David was treated to more than he bargained for with an at-home massage Patrick had planned for him.

After Patrick left the massage therapist an envelope stuffed with cash and a note asking them to 'take very good care' of David in order to help David de-stress before the ceremony, David ended up being made to feel more relaxed than he had expected.

And Levy revealed to EW that the title of the episode, 'Happy Ending', has several meanings as a result.

"I think first and foremost, it is what everyone wants for this family," he said. "I think it's what everyone wants for the show. It would be really sad and disappointing if we didn't give a happy ending.

"And then there is, quite literally, a happy ending that occurs during a massage that adds some levity to a pretty intense episode."

The massage situation could cause a rift between any couple on their wedding day but thankfully David and Patrick's relationship was so strong that they were able to overcome this unexpected setback.

"That was something that I thought was really fun to explore," Levy said. "The fact that this happens to David, and that it's not a make-or-break for their relationship because that's not what their relationship is founded on. It's founded on something much deeper, much more substantial, much more respectful."

Levy added that the "biggest wrench" for the couple was the rain, but the way the community rallied around to save the ceremony was an important way to say a "last goodbye" to the town and its characters.

"It never really happens the way that you think it's going to happen, and the way that it happens ends up being the way that it had to happen," Reid added. "It's kind of lovely that way. Ends up being more meaningful, somehow."
