Black-ish is introducing a couple of new guest stars for its upcoming season seven premiere, including two fan-favourite TV doctors.

With Black-ish hoping to reference the "reality" of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the sitcom has welcomed Scrubs' Judy Reyes and ER star Parminder Nagra as co-workers of Dr Rainbow Johnson.

Entertainment Weekly shares a first look at Judy and Parminder sitting with Tracee Ellis Ross' Bow in season seven, which sees Nurse Carla Espinosa and Dr Neela Rasgotra back in their scrubs once more – albeit in totally different hospitals.

Reyes will play Dr Laurie and Nagra will play Dr Wen.

Explaining Black-ish's move to Bow's workplace, showrunner Courtney Lilly said there would be "no version" of the show that didn't "address what's going on" in the world. "We're a show that takes place in the same reality that we all live in," she added.

Tracee Ellis Ross also opened up about the "weird" experience of filming with her new co-stars. "It was great and weird because we have our shields and you have to remove your PPE right before [shooting begins]," she said.

"So there wasn't a lot of bonding time. There weren't a lot of moments for us to connect as actors and do what we should do in this job."

Tracee is still hoping for Bow's colleagues to make a reappearance, though. "They were fantastic, and I hope that they come back again," she added. "I hope that we do more together."
