Welcome to another edition of Player Watch, where we keep score of your favourite Southeast Asian eSports teams and players in various games played within the region. We have a bevy of information for you concerning Southeast Asia’s top teams and players this week.

Because of last week’s WESG Southeast Asia and international fighting game tournaments, we will be listing out the Southeast Asian countries with the most significant eSports wins and their respective teams.

The Philippines

The Southeast Asian country was the highlight of WESG Southeast Asia 2018 during the past weekend, winning the most games during the tournament:

TNC Predator won the Dota 2 tournament against Malaysia’s WG Unity, proving once again they’re the top Dota 2 team in the region.

Their CS:GO female team ArkAngel won the CS:GO Women’s Division, beating Singapore’s Phoenix.

Enderr won the Starcraft II tournament, beating Vietnam’s Meomaika.

Malaysia

Malaysian player Lalasong won the WESG Hearthstone tournament on 16 December. He showed a ton of versatility and quick-thinking when using the Warlock, Hunter, and Paladin.

Check out the entire match between him and The Philippines’ Staz after the 3 hour 16 minute mark of the video below.

The Tekken 7 AOC Cup Grand Finals – Road to EVO tournament was also taking place during WESG Southeast Asia within the same vicinity.

SOG| Meat beat HX|Zaba in the grand finals 3-2 using a flurry of characters ranging from the recently-released Marduk to tournament staple Bryan.

Indonesia

The country’s sole female Hearthstone player Yukiusagi secured a big win against top female Singapore player Wolfsbanee in a close match. The match between the two is at the 1 hour 3 minute mark on the video below.

Thailand

Alpha Red won the CS:GO tournament against The Philippines’ TNC Predator. But the real winners are the spectators and audience at the Quill Mall, who witnessed a very amped and hyped CS:GO match-up between both countries on the sixth floor.

Despite the previous uphill climb for Alpha Red during the first match, the Thailand team rose to the occasion and pulled out a few tricks of their own.

Singapore

The little red dot should be proud at its recent eSports accomplishments.

Singapore’s Team Impunity won the Vainglory tournament during WESG Southeast Asia 2018, beating out Indonesia’s Elite 8.

As for Singapore’s fighting game darling Xian do during Capcom Cup 2018, he is at fourth place after a hard long fight using Ibuki.

While he did very well against the top 8 killers in the circuit, he unfortunately met his match when fighting against Itabashi Zangief.

In the 3D fighting game scene, Soulcalibur VI player Shen Yuan made the top 8 during the Soulcalibur VI NEC 19 tournament in the US, and showed a lot of high-level play during his bouts as the broadsword-using Siegfried.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it to the grand finals as his reign was stopped by Party Wolf with a very solid Kilik.

Still, it was a very solid performance that could have gone either way. Shen Yuan and his Singapore Soulcalibur VI team proved that they’re the country to watch out for when it comes to Bandai Namco’s tales of swords eternally retold.
