KUALA LUPUR: The Sea Games’ closing ceremony will be held on Aug 30, a day earlier than the originally-planned Aug 31, which coincides with the country's Independence Day.
Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin confirmed the matter after the Sea Games Management Meeting in Putrajaya, yesterday.
The shift in dates is also due to Hari Raya Haji falling on Sept 1.
However, Khairy reassured all stakeholders that the date change will not cause problems, as the Games organiser has a buffer period of 10 to 11 days.
“The changes in competition dates shouldn't be an issue, because we initially had a buffer of one day in the initial schedule,” he added.
