SEA Games: Youngest athlete Max Lee, 14, wins diving silver with Olympian Jonathan Chan
SINGAPORE — Max Lee, the youngest Team Singapore athlete at the Hanoi SEA Games at age 14, clinched a diving silver medal with Olympian Jonathan Chan in the men's 10m synchronised platform competition on Tuesday (10 May).
The duo scored 322.50 points to finish behind Malaysia's Jellson Jabillin and Hanis Nazirul Jaya Surya (345.93 points). Vietnam's Nguyen Quang Dat and Hoang Tu Dang (251.46 points) earned the bronze medal out of the four competing teams at the Aquatics Sports Palace.
While Max could celebrate his Games debut with a silver medal, Chan - who also celebrated his 25th birthday - is set to retire from the sport after this SEA Games.
He became the first Singaporean diver to compete at the Olympics when he participated in the men's 10m platform event at last year's Tokyo Olympics.
"It was my last hurrah. I felt no pressure, it wasn't about it being the last one but it was about enjoying it while I can," he told reporters after earning his SEA Games silver.
The duo's silver medal is the third medal won by Singapore at the Games, which will officially open on Thursday.
Their national teammate Avvir Tham had earned a silver in the men's individual 1m springboard event on Monday. Earlier on Tuesday, veteran diver Fong Kay Yian also clinched a bronze medal in the women's individual 3m springboard final.
