At Milan Fashion Week , designers were unafraid to go big, bold, and very weird for their Spring 2018 collection accessories.
At Gucci, creative director Alessandro Michele continued to draw inspiration from just about everything — Asia, the medieval era, 1980s film Working Girl, you name it — as models walked down the runway wearing oversized glasses à la Melanie Griffith’s classic character.
For Prada, models wore sunglasses eerily similar to the frames seen on Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, while fanny packs, aka bum bags, traditionally worn in the front, were worn across everyone’s actual bums. This styling technique was seen at the Max Mara show, as well.
On the other side of the spectrum, Moschino‘s Jeremy Scott incorporated nostalgic “My Little Pony” imagery onto lunchbox-shaped bags and mini backpacks — but he didn’t stop there, also getting whimsical by sending top models like Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls down the runway as human-sized floral arrangements. And what better accessory to complement their looks than cans of air-freshener spray, fashioned with handles and carried as purses? (Yes, you read that correctly.)
