See your favorite ’80s and ’90s kid stars as TV parents

In recent years, a popular casting decision has been placing actors and actresses who were once in the spotlight as kids into parenting roles on TV. To name a few, hit shows from Riverdale to Arrested Development have all had former child actors as part of their main adult casts.

One of the most prominent examples of this trend has been Winona Ryder, who has met critical acclaim for her role as Joyce Byers on Netflix’s Stranger Things. On her return, the actress commented:

“I took some years off, and I didn’t realize that was very dangerous in terms of my career,” Ryder told Time in 2016, “I learned, and I appreciated the time away.”

Some revival shows have taken a more direct approach, with the former kid actors reprising their roles as adult versions. Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber have starred in Fuller House, a revamped version of the hit ’80s-’90s show Full House. Then from 2014-2017, Ben Savage and
Danielle Fishel starred as adult versions of Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World in Girl Meets World.
