Sega arcade makes a comeback with new game center in Ikebukuro
Sega’s Ikebukuro Gigo arcade closed its doors permanently earlier in September after 28 years. However, the video game company has made a comeback last Friday (22 October), opening a new arcade in Ikebukuro, opposite the now-closed arcade.
The new Sega arcade is a five-storey building, with video games on the basement level, claw machines on levels one to three, and an Ichiban Kuji (a sure-win lucky draw game) cafe on the fourth storey. The cafe will be rotating themes, depending on the Ichiban Kuji series.

In line with its return, the windows of the new arcade read “We came home” and “I love Ikebukuro”. The new arcade may be relatively smaller, but netizens are generally more than happy to welcome Sega back, with comments like:
“I’m crying tears of happiness and relief! I’m so glad that the Sega Arcade will have new life!”
“I’m interested in the Ichiban Kuji cafe.”
“Great news!”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
The new arcade is the first part of Sega’s Ikebukuro Project. There is no details yet of the upcoming plans though.
