Selangor PAS rejects Perkasa pact

Selangor PAS has rejected any form of working relationship with Perkasa, less than a day after its president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, met with the Malay right-wing group. Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar A. Samad said it was opposed to any cooperation with any party which brought up racial sentiments, despite its readiness to cooperate with those who not only agreed to respect PAS’s principles and struggles, but also to fight against ruling Barisan Nasional pact. “Selangor PAS has received a clarification from the national PAS that it only received a courtesy call from Perkasa. “As such, it should be stressed that Selangor PAS disagreed with any sort of cooperation with Perkasa,” he said in a statement today. It was reported yesterday that Hadi and Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali sealed an agreement to work together on issues related to Islamic and Malay interests. This included the edict by the Malay rulers that investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) be resolved quickly and urging Putrajaya to release 1MDB critics Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer, Matthias Chang. Both are charged with attempted sabotage of the economy after lodging reports with foreign authorities against the state investment firm. Both parties also wanted the government to be transparent over the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA). However, Hadi’s political secretary Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar had clarified late yesterday that both parties only agreed on three issues and denied the establishment of any formal alliance. – October 14, 2015.
