SHAH ALAM: Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin showed the public what a good sport she is by taking part in the Malaysia Women Marathon (MWM) 2017’s VIP Fun Run this morning.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin ran the 6km route, which commenced at 7am, and completed the course in about an hour and 15 minutes.
Her running companions were the Selangor Menteri Besar's wife, Datin Seri Shamshida Taharin, Selangor state executive councillor Dr Daroyah Alwi, as well as Tourism Selangor general manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also flagged off the 5km Fun Run.
Some 5,000 participants joined in the 5th edition of the MWM in various categories, comprising 21km, 42km, as well as 2.5km for children.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said MWM is an annual event organised to mark Women's Day celebrations.
"This event reflects the state government's commitment to work with women in developing Selangor. We are also supportive of the role of women as agents of change in Selangor," Azmin said.
MWM director Karen Loh said they were very honoured to have Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin at the event today.
"It really lifted our spirits and gave us encouragement. It also showed us that Selangor truly supports women, not only in marathons, but overall," she said.
