Selena Gomez concert decisive factor in ending Pas-PKR ties

ALOR STAR: The Selangor government breached one of the condition of the 'tahaluf siyasi' (political cooperation) with Pas when it allowed the Selena Gomez concert to take place in Subang Jaya last July.

Selangor Pas Youth delegate Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim said the state government's action showed that they had broken an important term in their political ties.

He said, one of the conditions of the tahaluf siyasi was for PKR to strengthen the position of Islam in the state, not the other way around.

"That was the last straw. I support the move to sever ties with PKR wholeheartedly.

"They (state government) had breached the condition of tahaluf siyasi by allowing the concert to go on despite protests from our assemblymen," he said when debating the Pas Youth chief's keynote address during the party's 63rd Muktamar today.

The motion to cut ties with PKR was later unanimously accepted by all delegates present at the assembly without debates.

Yesterday, the party's Dewan Ulama wing had also passed a similar motion. More of such motions are expected to be tabled at Pas' main assembly tomorrow.

Commenting further on the Pas-PKR ties, Aubidullah described PKR as an "opportunist" party.

"They only do things that serves their self-interests. This is a party that does not care about what its partners say.

"When we protested the Selena Gomez concert, they did not listen to us and allowed it to go on," he added.
