Sembawang MP Poh Li San elected unopposed as STTA president
SINGAPORE — Sembawang GRC Member of Parliament Poh Li San has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) on Monday (29 August).
Following the association's annual general meeting on its Toa Payoh premises, the 46-year-old Changi Airport Group senior vice-president succeeds lawyer Ellen Lee, who has served a maximum of four two-year terms.
Poh has served as STTA deputy president since 2020, and announced her intention to run for president on 19 August.
"I have been serving as Ellen’s deputy for the past two years and in recent months, I was particularly moved by how close the team worked together, and also their passion, determination and fighting spirit," she told reporters upon her announcement.
"I don't do competitive sports anymore, I feel that now I have a different role to play... I can help younger players who are in that competitive sports space to really unleash their full potential."
Preparing paddlers for SEA Games, Asiad and Olympics
Poh said her short-term targets will be to prepare the national paddlers well for the 2023 SEA Games and Asian Games, as well as qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The paddlers had won three gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the recent Commonwealth Games in Birmingham
The newly elected STTA management committee saw 10 members returning unopposed, with four new members joining the committee.
