MANILA — The proposed bill authored by Senators Leila de Lima and Richard Gordon that upgrades the penalties for crimes committed under the Revised Penal Code (RPC) has been approved in the Senate.
Under the bill, the penalties for crimes committed such as treason will be upgraded from P20,000 pesos to P4 million; for rebellion, which has a penalty amounting to P8,000 will be upgraded to P1.6-million.
Penalties for falsification of documents will be upgraded from P5,000 pesos to P1 million.
The upgrade of penalties was made in accordance with the Supreme Court’s advice in 2014 to amend the Revised Penal Code that was passed 87 years ago. — UNTV News & Rescue
