Senator Grace Poe is pushing for an inquiry into the increasing number of overworked Filipinos, or those working beyond 48 hours every week in the past 20 years.
In Resolution 316 filed by Poe, she argues that stress at work caused by long working hours can lead to serious illness or even death.
The senator noted that according to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the number of overworked Filipinos has reached 8.8 million in 2015, a 4.5 percent increase since 2005.
Poe emphasized the need to study the policies of companies imposing long working hours to its workers.
She said labor laws have to be amended as well to ensure the humane working conditions of employees.
The senator further noted the importance of helping employees achieve a work-life balance to ensure that they will have enough time for work, self, and relationships. – Joyce Balancio | UNTV News and Rescue
