Senator Leila de Lima had a tight security while on her way to the arraignment of her case in the branch 34 of the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and House committee on justice Chair Reynaldo Umali accused De Lima of violating Article 150 of Revised Penal Code or the “disobedience to summons”.

The Senator refused to enter a plea during the arraignment, making the court headed by Judge Ludmila de Pio Lim to automatically enter a not guilty plea on her behalf.

“Hindi po kinikilala ni Senator De Lima and jurisdiction at otoridad ng Metropolitan Trial Court dahil ang kasong ito ay hindi para sa korteng ito kaya dahil po dito ay hindi sya nag-enter ng plea (Senator De Lima is not accepting the jurisdiction and authority of the Metropolitan Trial Court because this case is not for this court. This is the reason why she did not enter a plea), said Atty. Philip Sawali.

The case stemmed from her refusal to follow the summons of congress during their inquiry into the alleged drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prisons.

De Lima is also accused of ordering his former driver Ronnie Dayan of not attending the said House inquiry.

De Lima was arrested and detained at the PNP Custodial Center for her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

The Senator insisted during the arraignment that she’s innocent of the allegations, and that she’s just waiting for the response of the high court to her petition to be released.

“Ang importante po sa aking kaso ay nasa Supreme Court. At umaasa po ako na pagbibigyan ng Supreme Court yung kahilingan ko na ipalaya na po ako (The decision on my case rests on the Supreme Court. And I am hoping the Supreme Court will grant my request to be released from jail) ,” she said.

The Senator added, “Habang patuloy ang patayan at mga kasinungalingan hindi po ako mananahimik (While the killings and the lies continue, I will not remain silent).
