KANGAR: The Customs Department was granted a seven-day remand order against a local man and a Thai national beginning today following the seizure of RM1.9 million worth of drugs.
The two men, aged 55, were detained at Padang Besar Immigration, Customs and Quarantine about 2pm yesterday.
Perlis Customs Department chief Datuk Kamarudin Jaafar said 28kg of metaphetamine was found in the Mercedes Benz driven by the local man who was returning from Thailand.
He said the drugs were in the form of compressed crystal packed in 28 plastics of Guanyinwang tea.
"The Customs team became suspicious as both of them were seen entering the country for a number of times in a day.
"It was believed that the drugs were obtained from Thailand and meant to be distributed for local market.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said when contacted.
