GEORGE TOWN: Several roads on the island will be closed this Saturday to make way for the Royal Malaysian Police Solidarity Cycling event, in conjunction with the 210th Police Day celebration.
State Traffic and Public Order Department head Superintendent Roslan Ali said about 800 policeman including senior officers will take part in the event which is slated to begin by 7.30am at Marine Police headquarters in Batu Uban.
“Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, Jalan Permatang Damar Laut and Teluk Kumbar will be closed in stages.
“The cycling path from Teluk Kumbar to Teluk Bahang, Batu Ferringhi onwards heading to Gurney Drive will not be closed even though congestion is expected to happen,” he said in a press conference at Penang Police headquarters, Jalan Penang here today.
A total of 221 officers will be deployed to monitor the traffic flow to avoid any traffic congestion due to the cycling event.
The cycling event, expected to be concluded by 2.30pm, will involved policemen from Penang and Perak.
“I urge the public to adhere the our traffic officers instructions,” he added.
