What makes a car sexy? It’s a question that doesn’t really have a definite answer, since its meaning is practically different with each person. What’s sexy for a person may be the shape of the car or the sound of the engine. While some of the more pragmatic ones might find a car sexy if it’s fuel efficient and easy to maintain.
But for us, “sexy” is more about the car’s physical appeal — how it looks like from the outside.
What a “Sexy Car” Looks Like
Before we start, we’d like to remind you that this is not an objective study, since the viewpoints gathered here are only from a few women who just love cars (and men). So think of it as a semi-inebriated, casual conversation with female friends who are just passing time waiting for their sizzling steaks to arrive.
With that, there are four things we are keenly looking for when assessing a car’s sex appeal:
1. It has to have its own unique, style.
Many cars in the late 60s and 70s were sexy because car makers had their own style. Take the case of the 1967 Alpha Romeo 33 Stradale, with its sensuous curves and sloping lines.
2. Line and form are important — there should be a balance of curves and edges that should appeal to both men and women.
Cars that are too masculine may be sexy for men — but it won’t appeal to women. According to Jay Leno, an avid car lover, what makes a car have that certain “sexiness” to it is that “it has both the male and female accent to them.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Take for example, the Jaguar XK-E. Leno describes the vehicle as a feminine car with some masculine (and phallic) accents — or vice versa. People can relate to it because it appeals to everyone’s senses.
3. They should stand out.
A sexy car should have that “look” that makes it stand out. And it doesn’t have to be loud for people to take notice of it. We’re looking for an elusive appeal, or in French, a certain je ne sais quoi that’s hard to define on its own.
Sadly, this isn’t the case in most cars we have today. Have you ever noticed that most cars look “homogenous” these days? Just look at the sea of cars in the busy streets of the metro, and they seem to look the same. Really, they’re getting boring.
This is especially true for SUVs and crossovers. And while there’s no denying their popularity as one of the most versatile and functional cars around, we think car manufacturers have placed too much emphasis on “function” to the point of sacrificing “creativity” and “design” in the process.
Their challenge here find a way to incorporate both function and aesthetics in a more balanced way. If they can do that, then that would be a winner.
4. The design should be gorgeous.
This is a given. It should be timelessly fashionable and attractive — not just a fad.
Sexiest Cars for Men: Our Top Favorites
Now that we’ve defined what “sexy” means, here are some of the ideal cars that have everything we’re looking for:
Maserati Granturismo (2016)
Maserati Granturismo’s recessed grille complements its hefty cheekbones like a super model. Undeniably, this car oozes sex appeal from head to toe. This car looks good because all the lines and curves are strategically-placed right where they should be. What’s more, the sloping roof and side bumpers add a more sensual feel to the design.
Porsche Boxster (2016)
Porsche Boxster has a sexy and modern design that looks elegant when viewed from all angles. This vehicle offers clean, simple curves and a sloping hood that add a lot of sensuality, so it doesn’t matter if angles are found minimally on the exterior. Every design is well-integrated, with the dome design near the C-Pillar breaking the monotony — just for the thrill of it.
Chevrolet Corvette (2017)
The Chevrolet Corvette showcases a more adventurous and daring spirit, with dynamic lines placed strategically in different parts of the vehicle. The character lines on the side doors, together with the strake (lines on the hood) are ingenious and sexy. What’s more, the contours are sharp, and are accented by unusual shapes (like the headlights and grille on the hood) that add statement to the design.
Aston Martin DB-11 (2016)
One look at the Aston Martin DB-11 and you’ll understand why its predecessor, the DB-10, was used in the Bond movie, Spectre. Really, this car has the sexiest lines and shoulder when viewed from different angles, and everything is so streamlined to the point of utter perfection. The proportions are also sublime — even down to the size of the windows and side mirrors in relation to the header. Gorgeous.
Dodge Challenger (2017)
The Dodge Challenger is one of those cars that has that certain something that makes it really sexy. This car confidently struts itself with straightforward lines and lesser curves, so it really gives off a more masculine vibe instead of a sensual feel. But what makes it sexy is its overall appeal. Indeed, this car has a certain je ne sais quoi that we don’t often see in boxy cars today.
Jaguar F-Type coupe (2015)
The Jaguar F-Type coupe has an understated sexiness to it. Just like and Porsche Boxster, this car adds a lot of sensuality with its slopes and curves, while a protruding, almost angry snout adds a more masculine feel to it. Blending classic good looks with clean lines and modern to futuristic accents like the side bumpers and headlights, its well-balanced design gives it a lot of sex appeal right from the get go.
Ferrari 488 GTB (2016)
If there are two words to describe the Ferrari 488 GTB, it would be scorchingly hot. This car is a mishmash of exotic lines, curves, and contours that make it look modern, daring, and sensual at the same time. And that black mesh grille on the rear’s side shoulders accentuates its jutting angles like a pro. What’s more, little accents like the headlights are a stunner, and the slope of the car makes it a work of art in itself.
Mercedes Benz AMG GT (2017)
The Mercedes Benz AMG GT has a classic air to it, but a slight modern twist in the design gives it a lot of flair and style. This car’s curvaceous body harmoniously works with its masculine grille, headlights, and edgy contours on the sides, giving it a handsome appearance through and through. The fascia looks well-integrated with the hood, and the trunk spoiler wing doesn’t detract from its overall appearance.
Maybach Exelero (2017)
There’s something about the Maybach Exelero. Brimming with sex appeal and subtle bravado, this vehicle reminds you of old Hollywood movies where everything was glamorous, classy and elegant. Perfectly balanced and powerfully-built, it blends sexiness and confidence in an understated manner. Really, this car’s over-sized grille bumpers, character lines, and almost matte texture gives off the sexiest vibes in all the cars we’ve seen today.

A word about pickups
Pickup trucks have their own brand of sex appeal that’s different compared to other cars. Exterior-wise, their tough body and charming ruggedness give off an “urban cowboy” vibe that’s undeniably sexy.
Truth is, we think all pickups are okay, but some of the most current models that stand out are:

- Ford F-150 / Ranger
- Isuzu D-Max
