Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad held in #KitaLawan sweep

PAS MP, students released after court rejects remand request

Police arrested Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad early today in what has become a familiar pattern of detaining opposition leaders and activists after the #KitaLawan political rallies.

The PAS politician was picked up at his home at 3.20am, fellow party leader Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said in a Facebook update.

Dzulkefly said Khalid was arrested under the Sedition Act, a law that is now often cited when detaining those against the ruling Barisan Nasional government.

Khalid was brought to the Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, he said.

Yesterday, #KitaLawan secretariat member Fariz Musa became the first person arrested after the rally ended peacefully, reportedly under the Sedition Act.

He was brought to the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang was also arrested ahead of the #KitaLawan rally yesterday while party secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, who was arrested on Friday, has been remanded for three days.

Activist Hishamuddin Rais, who was arrested on Friday night, was also remanded for three days.

Tian Chua, as he is also known, was arrested after emerging from a town hall meeting with his constituents in Batu, Kuala Lumpur.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu was also arrested after attending a monthly party meeting in Penang yesterday.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, was detained by about 10 armed and masked policemen.
