Shahidan compares severity of punishment on wildlife offences with RUU355 amendments

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) Members of Parliament will decide on Pas’ Private Member’s Bill to empower Syariah Court after all details have been explained in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said this to reporters when met at the Parliament lobby.

He said he was satisfied with amendment so far, but will only make a decision after listening to Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan presenting his points today.

“We can’t make any decision because we have to listen to the explanation first. So far Pas has made it clear that it will not affect non-Muslims.

“And besides, the law on wildlife offences is more (severe) than offences involving faith, which is a very interesting example,” he said.

When pressed further if he will be voting for the amendment, Shahidan jokingly said, “Look at where I’m going to point my finger later.”

Asked again on Umno’s stance, he told the press to wait whether or not there will be a voting session today.

“How can I speak on behalf of Umno? I’m just a supreme council member. We will follow the rules,” he added.
