Shahrizat: Kit Siang should be Opposition leader, not Wan Azizah

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno has called for the Opposition to replace Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail with DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

It’s chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the position of PKR president Wan Azizah as the Opposition leader was no longer felt in the last Parliament session as she was hardly heard, seemingly staying very low-key despite helming the pact.

“Instead (DAP adviser) Lim Kit Siang should be the leader as it is clear that he is the one controlling the pact,” she said in a statement today.

Sharizat pointed out that Wanita Umno has been closely following the current Parliamentary session.

She said that DAP appeared more dominant in the Opposition pact as it holds 37 seats compared to PKR’s 27 seats, thus she stressed, “the appointment of Kit Siang as the Opposition leader is very accurate.”

“Why is Kit Siang choosing Wan Azizah as the Opposition leader? Wanita Umno sees this as a sly move meant only to convince the Malays that the Opposition is controlled by them (Malays) when everyone knows that DAP controls the Opposition pact and its Malay leaders are only used as their political puppets,” she added.

She said this was why Wanita Umno had urged Wan Azizah to let go of the position so that Kit Siang becomes the real Opposition leader and the Malays will no longer be deceived by Kit Siang’s and DAP’s political ploys.

She also said that since DAP holds the most Parliamentary seats, therefore Kit Siang would obviously be the candidate of choice for the position of Prime Minister.

“If that happens, only then will Malays realise that their choice in the upcoming 14th general election will be between (Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak or Kit Siang.

Kit Siang had in December proposed Wan Azizah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin be made interim prime minister and deputy prime minister if the Opposition wins the next general election.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also reportedly stressed that Wan Azizah remains the leader of Pakatan Harapan.
