Shawn Levy to go "Uncharted" as the big-screen director

27 Oct - After years of development hell since its inception in 2009, Sony Pictures has finally announced that Shawn Levy will be directing the big screen version of "Uncharted".

Apart from the forthcoming movie, Levy's recent work was the Netflix hit series "Stranger Things", in which he has directed two episodes.

He is also known for helming several recognisable studio pictures including the "Night at the Museum" trilogy, "Real Steel" and "The Pink Panther".

Joe Carnahan ("Smokin' Aces", "The A-Team") is writing the most recent draft of the script and was originally attached to direct "Uncharted" as well, but decided to focus on helming "Bad Boys for Life" a.k.a. "Bad Boys 3" instead, according to Deadline.

Based on the popular Playstation video game series of the same name developed by Naughty Dog, "Uncharted" is a third-person action-adventure video game that centres on a treasure hunter named Nathan Drake, who travels around the world to explore different historical discoveries.

Ever since the game debuted in 2007 with "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", the series has spawned a number of game sequels over the last few years.

Earlier this year, the series has released the fourth video game known as "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End".
