WHO to ship supplies to Lebanon - Tedros

The August 4 port warehouse detonation of more than 2,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate killed 158 people, injured more than 6,000 and destroyed a swathe of the Mediterranean city, compounding months of political and economic meltdown and prompting furious calls for the entire government to resign.

WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed his support to the people of Beirut as well as to health workers in the field and said the agency had deployed part of its emergency fund to the Lebanese capital after the explosion.

He said WHO will also aid in battling the COVID-19 outbreak in the country and will provide "psycho-social support" and assistance in rebuilding health facilities.
