SEREMBAN: Ten couples will be celebrated in the true wedding tradition of Adat Perpatih from Luak Sungei Ujong, in this year’s Warna-Warni Adat Perpatih, which will be held later this month.

With the theme ‘Olek Perkahwinan’, the traditional wedding ceremony will showcase the ten couples at event set to take place on Apr 15 at the Muzium Negeri, here.

State Secretary Datuk Seri Mat Ali Hassan said the event will act as a platform for the public to learn more about the state’s Adat Perpatih.

“Adat Perpatih is indeed a unique tradition but today, not many people truly understand the practice, especially the new generation. It is our goal to not only share this unique custom, particularly from Luak Sungei Ujong, but also to deliver the right information about this heritage,” he said.

“Wedding tradition in the state is different from any other states as they are bound by the Adat Perpatih tradition and culture. There are certain rules and procedures that are still being practiced here. These and other demonstrations on the Adat Perpatih wedding ceremony will be showcased at the event,” he said at a press conference today at the Wisma Negeri.

The one-day event will be run from 8am to 11pm, with a variety of programmes lined-up throughout the day.

Among them are wedding seminars, traditional games demonstrations, cultural performances, traditional food exhibitions, drawing and colouring contest, and storytelling competition based on Adat Perpatih, among others.

Popular artistes are also expected to add more colour to the event.

Jointly organised by the state government, Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong and the state’s Museum Board, Warna-Warni Adat Perpatih will be officiated by Undang Luak Sungei Ujong, Datuk Kelana Petra Datuk Mubarak Dohak.
