6:57PM

Fans on the pitch

What a comeback that was from Shrewsbury. After an early set back they started pushing higher up the pitch, pressing higher too, and were able to drive through the middle of the park and create chances. Shrewsbury fans are absolutely loving it, most of those in the stands have spilled onto the pitch and are having a rare old time. Kids especially are really enjoying it.

6:53PM

FULL TIME

That's it!!! What a result for Shrewsbury! An amazing second half and fans have rushed on to the pitch to celebrate. A money spinning replay at Anfield to follow.

6:52PM

90 mins+4 - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

Liverpool in the final third, looking for a way to score, swinging in crosses to the box. Nothing's sticking and Shrewsbury attack up the other end now, winning a corner.

The ball is whipped across the box and headed behind by Cummings at the back post! What a game this has been.

Jones has a chance to shoot but waits too long... and is blocked.

6:50PM

90 mins +2 - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

SALAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! So close! Firmino has changed everything since coming on, as though he's playing a different sport, and a cross into the area for Salah is headed just wide of the far post. The shot was right but needed a little more power to guide it inside the goal.

6:48PM

90 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

Now Liverpool are the ones panicking and trying to grab the result they want! Firmino makes a great run in behind, a long pass finds him and he only has the goalie to beat from a tight angle. He volleys it across the box, it's pawed away and Jones goes sliding in to try and convert into an empty net, wiping out Williams in the process. Free-kick.

6:45PM

88 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

Adrian has to boot the ball out of play while chased down by Jason Cummings and falls out with him afterwards but the referee tells them both to wise up. Laurent has been so good in this half, and he finds Love with a through-ball, who crosses into the area... and it hits Fabinho's arm! That's a definite penalty! Surely! But there's no VAR and the referee's missed it. Ooooohhhhhhh controversial scenes.

6:43PM

86 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

A teasing cross is delivered deep into the box and Adrian does well to catch it before a blue shirt heads it past him!

Udoh comes on for Whalley, who has been kept quiet but run tirelessly.

Firmino comes on for Minamino.

6:41PM

84 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

And now Firmino is getting ready to come on. It's in defence that Liverpool seem to be struggling but Klopp's going for really strong attacking options to try and get a goal or keep Shrewsbury pinned further back.

The home side are all over this game, they have been superb in this second half.

6:40PM

82 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

That second Cummings goal goes to show how brilliant a player Virgil Van Dijk is. They wouldn't have scored if he'd been on the pitch - that was the exact kind of defensive mix up and poor communication that Klopp took so long to fix in the first place.

6:39PM

81 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

Mo Salah is coming on now. Klopp wants to get this finished!

Shrewsbury keep up the pressure, Salah replaces Matip and is first touch is to get the ball away from the box before passing straight out of play. He's gone looking for Matip there, who is walking around the pitch having been subbed.

6:36PM

78 mins - Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

There is no way that Klopp wants to have to deal with a replay should this finish in a draw, but honestly the most likely winners now are Shrewsbury. They've been brilliant this second half.

6:34PM

GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!

CUMMINGS HAS DONE IT!!!!

Shrewsbury 2 Liverpool 2

Totally deserved, from a long ball, awful defending from Matip and Lovren and Cummings steals away to score.

6:34PM

75 mins - Shrewsbury 1 Liverpool 2

Great save by O'Leary! Origi takes a shot from outside the box and it dips and swerves with power towards the bottom corner but the goalkeeper dives and turns it behind!

And now Shrewsbury are on the counter!

6:31PM

73 mins - Shrewsbury 1 Liverpool 2

Oxlade-Chamberlain on, Elliot off. Seems like a sensible move - the youngster was hardly involved tonight.

Liverpool seem to have gained a bit of composure back and are finding red shirts with forward passes. Jones is a decent player but really seems to know it and doesn't release the ball as early as he maybe should at times.

6:28PM

71 mins - Shrewsbury 1 Liverpool 2

Jones has managed to get himself involved in the game again having been invisible for the previous 25 minutes, dribbles to the box, cuts inside, looks for options and doesn't have any... and Liverpool stay patient.

Shrewsbury drop back into their deep defensive shape but Lovren forces a pass through to the forwards and out for a goal kick.

6:26PM

68 mins - Shrewsbury 1 Liverpool 2

That goal makes things really interesting. I wonder if Klopp will make any changes and put some experienced players on the pitch to get some control of this game, Shrewsbury are all over it.

Minamino goes down in a crowd of bodies but is never getting a penalty for it. Laurent is able to run with the ball through the centre of the pitch, Origi jogs back to track him and a through pass nearly finds Edwards inside the box. Laurent can play.

6:24PM

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!

CUMMINGS SCORES!

Shrewsbury 1 Liverpool 2

Cumming slots the ball in the bottom corner. Great finish. The home crowd is alive and loud!

6:22PM

PENALTY!

SHREWSBURY HAVE A PENALTY! This tie is about to come alive! Laurent bursts through the middle making that same run Shrewsbury have been looking for all game long and is taken out by Larouci, who is booked.

6:22PM

64 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

Klopp won't be happy with this from Lovren and Matip, who are playing as though in low power mode. Edwards is able to run into the box and head a cross over the bar, but should probably have had someone following him.

It's not working in the final third for Liverpool either. Moves are breaking down too easily.

6:20PM

62 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

And now Laurent has a chance to score! Shrewsbury are creating chances, taking advantage of a really sloppy, clumsy Liverpool side who are passing the ball straight to blue shirts... but Laurent shanks his effort wide of the goal. They've had more shots than Liverpool now.

6:18PM

61 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

That was Lang's last involvement in the match as he is subbed off, a decision the home fans boo. Jason Cummings replaces him and will absolutely relish sprinting in behind a high line.

6:17PM

58 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

Liverpool controlling the game, Shrewsbury still intercepting then breaking. And Lang is away! Great run - terrible defending! He sprints towards the box, stays composed and side foots the shot low towards the bottom corner... saved by Adrian!

6:12PM

55 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

The problem with Shrewsbury pressing higher up the pitch is that they'll inevitably leave more space for Liverpool to move the ball through. It seems to be causing a few problems near the box though, with some panicked clearances being punted away.

6:10PM

52 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

Shrewsbury starting the press much higher than in the first half but Liverpool's positioning is good and they're linking passes... and now they've lost it! Laurent intercepts but shoots wide from just outside the box.

6:07PM

49 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

That's probably the game gone now. Shrewsbury still sitting back in their 4-4-2, waiting for a chance to win the ball and break. Liverpool moving the ball around looking for a way through the block.

6:04PM

GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!

Ahhh that sucks. Poor guy. Donald Love, ex of Manchester United, has put the ball into his own net.

Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 2

It's quite a decent finish to be fair, but the problem is that tucking a shot inside your own post is bad for a team trying to win. The crowd reacted to that with a big gasp. Liverpool fans hardly even cheered.

6:03PM

KICK OFF 2

We're back. No changes that I can see so far.

5:54PM

What needs to change?

Liverpool don't really need to change anything other than watch for those balls over the top that keep putting Whalley in on goal. Shrewsbury only need to keep doing what they're doing - if they're going to win or draw this game it's going to be from a dreadful mistake and a lot of expended energy.

5:48PM

HALF TIME

The corner doesn't do anything but the second phase of it gives Pierre a chance to score, but he swings at the ball rather than controlling his shot and the ball is collected by Adrian.

Not brilliant from Liverpool, not bad from Shrewsbury. There's something in here for the home side but it feels like if Klopp's team needed to they could pull away here.

5:47PM

45 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

The two Liverpool full-backs aren't having the best game and Fabinho's having to do quite a lot of dadding, covering for mistakes and blocking space. Aaaaaand it might actually be Fabinho who's struggling because he's just booted a back pass out for a corner. What a time to score this would be!

5:42PM

42 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Shrewsbury are going to be knackered by the end of this. They're all having to drop so deep to defend and can only attack by running with the ball to get up the other end. That'll show in the later stages of the match.

5:40PM

40 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Whalley has another chance to shoot at goal and is absolutely the danger man for Shrewsbury. He runs free from Matip and Williams but doesn't have the finish and drags his shot wide.

5:38PM

37 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

It's still a training game. If Shrewsbury score it will be from a long ball to Whalley after a mistake. More likely is that Liverpool eventually get a second at some point in the second half then finish the game off with a late third.

5:35PM

34 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Liverpool's high press is working a treat. Fabinho's looking a little dozy today though, definitely needs a match or two to get on his A game.

Jones is a classy player and has been making things happen in that final third. Shrewsbury are just waiting for the ball to be given away before trying to break, relying on Whalley to beat the defenders for pace.

5:31PM

31 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Liverpool half heartedly appeal for a penalty as a cross is smashed off a defender's arm but it's one of those that should never, ever be given. Thankfully it isn't.

5:28PM

28 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Norburn has to leave the pitch and looks gutted about it. He clanged his knee off a Liverpool player's knee and just can't run it off. Edward replaces him and takes the captain's armband.

5:25PM

25 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

SHREWSBURY SHOULD SCORE! Great save by Adrian! That's what they've been looking for all game. Fabinho is robbed of possession, Whalley runs away from the defence and only has the goalkeeper to beat but puts his shot straight at him. That had to go in either corner, really poor finishing. Seems like he had too much to think about and confused himself.

5:24PM

24 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Is it Shrewsbury as in shrowsbury? Like 'oh' or Shrewsbury as in the small animal?

Liverpool have all of the ball. This is basically a defence v attack training session.

5:21PM

21 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

The BBC have just shown a stat that says Shrewsbury have made 20 passes, while Liverpool have made 149.

Jones has mis-hit a volley on his left foot from outside the box. Should really have hit the target but scuffs the effort.

Training must be so competitive at Melwood as well. Young players need to work so much harder to catch Klopp's attention.

It's all Liverpool by the way. Shrewsbury occasionally get the ball but give it away straight after.

5:17PM

17 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

Was a great pass and a tidy finish for that goal. When you're a young player like Jones you absolutely have to take chances to have any hope of getting in the first team.

5:16PM

GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!

Curtis Jones opens the scoring.

Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 1

It's really difficult to get excited about this game, Liverpool are absolutely cruising.

5:14PM

13 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 0

This game has a bit of a friendly feel to it. That might just be that so many of the Liverpool players are basically Football Manager regens.

5:11PM

10 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 0

82 per cent possession to Liverpool so far.

5:09PM

8 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 0

It looks like Shrewsbury have a plan here. The idea is that when they get the ball someone makes a run forwards. The first pass goes backwards and the next is launched, hoping to break the offside trap.

Liverpool don't look as fluent with each other as they usually do but they're still in control of the match. Origi has just shot wide from 25 yards, narrowly missing a volleyed effort.

5:05PM

5 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 0

Another offside flag as another Shrewsbury player runs beyond the last line. That's a definite tactic - third man runs getting onto chipped passes from deep.

It's really scrappy in the Shrewsbury half, some untidy touches and strong challenges so far.

5:03PM

3 mins - Shrewsbury 0 Liverpool 0

A bit of early excitement as it looks like Shrewsbury have broken in behind the defensive line but the offside flag denies them.

Here come the players

It's the best team in the world reserves vs a lower midtable League One side. Might we see one of the most unlikely giant killings that makes the FA Cup so beloved?

Answer: no

4:35PM

'An opportunity to play against the very, very best'

Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts: "Whichever team Liverpool put out there is going to be some great players, no doubting that. But what better experience than to play against the very, very best that are currently head and shoulders above everyone else in the country.

"The problem is, whereas some teams have two or three ways of hurting you, Liverpool have five or six. You have to respect all of them. Nullify them best we can and try to focus on us a little bit and what we do. Our way of playing won't change for this game from any other."

Klopp taking few chances

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp make 11 changes for the tie at League One Shrewsbury but his starting line-up is still considerably stronger than the one which put out Everton in the last round.

Dejan Lovren captains the team alongside fellow first-teamers Joel Matip, Fabinho and Divock Origi with January signing Takumi Minamino also starting.

Naby Keita returns from injury to take his place on the bench which was, somewhat surprisingly, also occupied by Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool team news

4:02PM

Do Liverpool really want the FA Cup?

I've asked a few Liverpool fans over the previous few days if they're at all bothered about winning the FA Cup and the consensus (from a small sample base) was a resounding and clear 'no'. The league is what everyone wants, the Champions League is a nice potential bonus, and the domestic cups are just extra fixtures that the reserve team should be able to negotiate.

Liverpool have quietly survived a mini injury crisis, and should be able to use this match as a way to give those returning players like Matip and Lallana a run from the start, while giving Minamino and some youngsters minutes too.

Shrewsbury will have more of a chance today than anyone usually gets against Liverpool because of squad rotation and might as well give it a good go, especially considering the rest of their season will be spent in mid-table. They're sat 16th in League One and aren't great.

Jason Cummings is a decent player and could be the man to trouble the Liverpool back line, but even if it is a B team that Klopp puts out, they should be able to run away with this.
